What is Agnirasa?

The pancreas in our body in Malayalam is called Agneya granthi. The Juice which pancreas generates is called Agneya rasa which is nothing but Insulin in modern medical terminology.

For a diabetic patient, his body would be full of inflammation. Before he become a “diabetic” his body would be developing a condition called “Insulin Resistance”.

Insulin resistance is a condition where the body’s cells become less responsive to the hormone insulin, which is essential for regulating blood sugar levels. When cells resist insulin’s effects, the pancreas produces more of the hormone to help glucose enter cells. Over time, this can lead to elevated blood sugar levels, a precursor to type 2 diabetes. This excess generation of insulin will start giving inflammation to all the visceral organs. Both the excess insulin and high glucose together shall make the following physical conditions to our body.

1.Liver:Liver could be the first to get effected and forms fatty Liver Grade 1 and as well generate cholesterol in blood.

2. Nerves: The nerves will get inflamed and shall gradually lead to Hyper Tension/Blood pressure and Neuropathy

3. Brain: Inflammation in brain leads to diseases like Alzheimer’s / Dementia

4. Heart: Inflammation in heart produces clots and plaques which leads to heart failure/ attacks

5. Kidneys: Inflammation in kidneys leads to High creatine levels and other nephrological issues.

6. Eyes: Inflammation in Eyes would lead to conditions like Retinopathy

7. Muscles: When the excess Sugar is deposited in the muscles it will lead to Gangrene and subsequently to amputation.

Whenever we take our normal food, it is converted as glucose as energy for all body functions and any extra glucose thus generated and not used shall be again converted as Glycogens and stored in our body for later use. When the person falls into a medical condition of Insulin resistance this process of making the extra glucose as glycogen does not happen and hence the extra glucose shall be in the blood stream circulating all over the body. Modern Medicine calls this as Diabetes Mellitus which means floating sweetness in the blood.

What is Diabetes (Premeha) according to Ayurveda

In classical Ayurveda text, Charaksamhitha under Premeha chikilsa sixth slokas state that that there are 20 types of Premeha (diabetes).
Of these, ten types are caused by kapha disorder and can be cured. Another six types are caused by pitta dosha and can be managed. The last four types are caused by vatha and cannot be cured.

How we diagnose the type of Diabetes (Premeha)

When our expert physician does the organ diagnosis through pulse reading, he checks the pulse pertaining to Spleen and if he could read

  1. 1. Kapha predominance: Then the diabetes of this patient can be remised
  2. 2. Pitta predominance: Then the diabetes of this patient can be manageable
  3. 3. Vata Predominance: Then the diabetes of this patient is incurable

The results of the organ diagnosis shall be reconfirmed with the reports of the following Laboratory tests.

  1. 1. C Peptide
A C-peptide test measures the amount of C-peptide in your blood to determine how much insulin your body is producing. C-peptide is a byproduct of hormone Insulin produced by the pancreas during the process of making insulin.
  2. 2. Homa IR
The HOMA-IR test measures insulin resistance, which is when cells in the body don’t respond properly to insulin. This test measures the amount of insulin needed to maintain normal blood sugar levels.

  3. 3. Insulin Sensitivity Test
An insulin sensitivity test measures how well cells respond to insulin, a hormone that helps regulate blood glucose levels. Insulin sensitivity tests can help assess insulin resistance, which occurs when cells don’t respond properly to insulin.

  4. 4. Beta Cell Function Test
Beta cell tests can measure the amount of insulin and C-peptide in the blood, which can help determine how well the pancreas is producing insulin and how well the body is using insulin

  5. 5. Hemoglobin A1c
A hemoglobin A1C (HbA1c) test measures the average blood sugar level over the past two to three months. It’s a blood test that shows how well your body has been handling sugar.

The above results are co related with the organ diagnosis through Pulse reading, our Practioners shall come to a conclusion that weather the diabetes of the patient is remissible, manageable or in curable.

Once the Practitioner decides on the type of Diabetes, in order to understand other related health complication, the patient might have which needs to be addressed, the patient will be asked to take various tests. Since Diabetes is a vascular disease, it is imperative to check the health of the heart and neuro system of the patient the following tests are also advised.

  1. 1. Apolipoprotein A
An apolipoprotein A test, also known as an Apo A test, measures the amount of apolipoprotein A in your blood. Apolipoprotein A is a protein that helps move cholesterol in your blood. It helps your healthcare provider figure out your risk for cardiovascular disease. Apolipoprotein A is a protein carried in HDL (“good”) cholesterol.
  2. 2. Apolipoprotein B
An Apo B or Apolipoprotein B-100 test is a blood test that can tell you about your risk for cardiovascular (heart and blood vessel) disease. To do this, it measures the amount of Apo B, which carries substances in your blood that help make plaque, a waxy fat that can block your arteries.
  3. 3. Lipoprotein A
A lipoprotein (a) test measures the amount of lipoprotein (a) in your blood and indicates your risk of developing cardiovascular disease. Lipoproteins are particles made of protein and fats (lipids) that carry cholesterol through your bloodstream to your cells. Elevated levels of lipoprotein (a) are linked to a higher risk of cardiovascular disease, including irregular heart rhythms, heart valve disease, and limited lower-body circulation.
  4. 4. HS CRP
A high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (HS-CRP) test measures the level of C-reactive protein (CRP) in your blood to help determine your risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD). The HS-CRP test can help show the risk of getting coronary artery disease. In coronary artery disease, the arteries of the heart narrow. Narrowed arteries can lead to a heart attack.
  5. 5. Homocysteine Quantitative
A homocysteine test often helps healthcare providers: Identify a vitamin deficiency (shortage) of B6, B12 or B9, also known as folate or folic acid. Assess heart disease or stroke risk. Monitor people with heart disease or the chances to have heart problems to determine whether the condition is worsening.
  6. 6. CK Total
A creatine kinase (CK) test measures the amount of creatine kinase in your blood. Elevated CK levels may indicate skeletal muscle, heart or brain damage or degeneration — either chronic (long-term) or acute (short-term).

Since Diabetes patients have been taking medicines which in turn induces insulin and Insulin being a growth hormone it might trigger the development of cancer cells in the Patients body. Hence, we advise the following tests.

  1. 1. CEA (carcinoembryonic antigen)
A carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) test measures the level of CEA in your blood to help determine if you have cancer or if it’s returning after treatment. As a type of tumor marker, CEA is an indicator of whether cancer is growing and spreading or diminishing with treatment.
  2. 2. CA19-9
A CA 19-9 test measures the amount of the protein cancer antigen 19-9 (CA 19-9) in your blood. CA 19-9 is a type of tumor marker. Tumor markers are substances made by cancer cells or by normal cells in response to cancer in your body. Healthy people can have small amounts of CA 19-9 in their blood. High levels of CA 19-9 are often a sign of pancreatic cancer.

All patients who come to us would have been taking anti diabetic medicines for a long time and most of them might have Liver and Kidney functioning issues. Also, they might have hormonal imbalances. Hence to understand and rule out those issues we would advice the following tests to be taken.

Liver Function Test (LFT)
A liver function test (LFT) measures the levels of substances produced by the liver in your blood to help evaluate the health of your liver. LFTs measure the levels of proteins, enzymes and other substances that are made by your liver. Some of these tests show how well your liver is working. Some measure enzymes that are released into the blood when liver cells are damaged.

Ultra Sound Scan (Abdomen)
An abdominal ultrasound is a noninvasive imaging test that uses high-frequency sound waves to create images of the organs and blood vessels in the abdomen. It is used to look at organs in the abdomen, including the liver, gallbladder, spleen, pancreas, and kidneys. We look at this report to understand the patient have fatty Liver and if yes to know the grade.

Renal Function Test (RFT)
A renal function test (RFT) measures the health of your kidneys by evaluating how well they are filtering waste products and maintaining the balance of electrolytes and minerals in your blood. Renal Function Tests allow us to see how our kidney is functioning. This test can help detect the presence of a number of kidney-related problems and we keenly look into the creatine levels seriously.

Thyroid Function Test (TFT)
A thyroid profile test, or thyroid function test (TFT), measures the levels of thyroid hormones in the blood which could be one of the major contributor for hormonal imbalances. These tests can tell you if you have conditions like hypothyroidism (underactive thyroid) or hyperthyroidism (overactive thyroid).

Lipid Profile
A lipid profile test, also known as a cholesterol test or lipid panel, measures the amount of different types of fats in your blood. These tests help to assess your risk of heart disease, stroke, or other cardiovascular diseases. High levels of cholesterol and triglycerides in the blood can lead to a buildup in your arteries and blood vessels, which can increase your risk of health problems.

Treatment offered by Punarjanis Life Sciences Vs Mordern medicine treatments

Agni rasa is a diabetic treatment regime to set right all the above diabetic related health disorders. The current treatment methods followed by the different schools of medicines are “insulin” based treatments. They try to induce more insulin which fundamentally results in Insulin Resistance. Also, they try to flush out the glucose to the blood and through urine which gives excessive load to Kidneys.

The treatment regime Punarjani’s Life Sciences offers as per the traditional school of Ayurveda is to burn the glucose deposited from the muscles with Arka (Distilled) Ayurvedic medicines to consume internally along with other ayurveda Pancha Karma treatments with specially made potentized oils. These medicines don’t harm any organs because our medicines don’t induce Insulin or tamper with Pancreas to produce more insulin.

When we consume modern insulin-based medicines excess insulin is produced and this excess insulin shall make inflammation in the internal organs which leads to further health complications. Hence the patients who are undergoing modern medicine treatment have to only increase the dosage of medicines or go for more combination of drugs over a period of time. They can’t even think about reducing the dosage of medicines at any point of time. These are the biggest challenges modern medicine Practitioners faces while they treat diabetes.

In our treatment Regime, we try to accelerate and improve the function of Liver, maintains and promotes metabolism through our Ayurvedic Arka (Distilled) medicines from traditional herbs. This stimulates the brain to achieve hormonal balance in the body. This treatment method doesn’t compel the pancreas to make excess insulin and protects the body from inflammations.

Agnirasa 14-Day Ayurvedic Diabetic Treatment Regime

A team of physicians, led by our Chief Physician, will evaluate all the diagnostic reports related to different organs and decide on the appropriate traditional Arka (distilled) medicines for internal use. They will also determine the duration and combination of external therapies for the 14-day treatment. This holistic approach not only focuses on managing diabetes but also addresses any potential damage to other organs, ensuring the patient’s overall well-being.

Once the internal medicines and external therapies are finalized, the patient will be fitted with a Continuous Glucose Monitoring (CGM) sensor. This device tracks blood sugar levels 24/7 for the entire two-week period. The patient will also have access to these readings to better understand how their blood sugar levels fluctuate. We have observed the sugar levels of most of the patients start declining from the third day onwards.

External Treatment Procedures

We use specially potentized Ayurvedic oils and medicines for external therapies. The potentized oil is applied over the entire body, allowing its medicinal properties to be absorbed into the muscles, where it helps to liquefy excess glucose and toxins.

Following this, an herbal mixture in buttermilk is poured continuously on the head (Shiro Dhara) to stimulate brain cells. Next is Sarvanga Dhara, in which a decoction made from 32 herbal powders is poured continuously over the body, increasing blood circulation.

A paste made from 18 herbs is then applied to the body, and the patient rests for 20-25 minutes. This treatment helps rejuvenate and repair muscles, aiding in the removal of glucose deposits. These treatments are carried out daily for 14 days.

Post-Treatment Care

At the end of the 14-day program, patients are sent home with a clear diet and exercise plan. Medicines must be continued for several more weeks. Two weeks after the program ends, patients are advised to monitor their urine sugar levels four times a day (Fasting, Post-Prandial, After Lunch, and After Dinner). They will begin to notice reduced sugar levels in their tests and should gradually reduce their internal medicine dosage according to our instructions. Within 1-2 months, all tests will show nil urine glucose levels, allowing the patient to stop taking medicines altogether. This outcome is achievable if the patient diligently follows our Diet and Exercise instructions which would be quite easy for one to follow.
Patients are also advised to check their HbA1c levels every 3 months to ensure that their glucose levels remain under control.
