Diet recommendations
To treat the infection the body must detoxify. When body temperature rises, it dilates the blood vessels. Increased sweating helps to reduce the body temperature and also to remove toxins from the body. The patient must drink sufficient water and fluids and remain hydrated until he/she recovers fully.
During a fever, liver functions will be sluggish. It is advisable to eat easily digestible food such as porridge, kanji and vegetables and fruits. Animal products and milk products should be avoided till the patient recovers. Avoid sleeping during the day to improve night-time sleep. Total rest is a must.
Please remain hydrated throughout the illness by drinking enough water, soup, juices without sugar, rasam, or buttermilk. The patient can also drink water mixed with 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
Total liquid consumption should be around 3 litres (including water).
Please replace one meal with salad made from raw vegetables and leafy vegetables and fruits. Diabetics should follow a diet that does not increase blood sugar levels. It is very important to eat frequent, light meals.
