When the
Kundalini pierces these knots, the Yogi experiences 10 kinds of sounds like (1)
Chini – the chirping of birds. (2)
Chinchini – the sound of crickets, (3)
Mani Nada – the sound of bells, (4)
Shankia Nada – the sound of conch, (5)
Standri Nada – the sound of string instrument (Indian Lute), (6)
Stala Nada – Jalar sound, (7)
Venu Nada – the sound of flute, (8)
Bhari Nada – the sound of drums, (9)
Mrudanga Nada – sound of barrel drum, (10)
Magha Nada – the sound of thunder. It is said that the experience of each individual will be slightly different. There are 108
gathis (modes) of sound that is 1+8 = 9 the nine spinal energy centers of the body. When the
Kundalini reaches the top of her course, the Yogi hears only one sound the great sound ‘
OM’.
When the Yogi experiences these sounds, the soul of the Yogi will be transformed to Shakti Swarupa, Sarvavyapi, Sarvajothi, Shudda, Buddha, Nethya, Neranjana, Santha and Sadha Shiva. The basic of all Indian musical instruments are formulated by hearing these 10 sounds. That is why before starting any Tantric Pooja the “Ghanda Nada” is produced, for stimulating the Chini and Chinchini.
The musical compositions originated in temples, which later on developed else where as specific art. Disease and death are determined by particular sound waves. The uniqueness of the Sanskrit language is because of its ‘phonetic’ and not ‘linguistic’; here the emphasis is more on sound than on word. That is why; the great masters passed their knowledge by word of mouth rather than in writing. That is why for thousands of years they were against writing down the scriptures. Hence they were known as Shrutis (meaning that which is learned by listening). There are various parts of Vedic lore where no meaning could be deciphered. Like the Mantra OM – but it has a sound based impact, which creates a specific effect. Due to the same reason the Mantra is always been recited by the Guru (master) in the disciples ear.
Music is the manifestation of sound and sound exists where ever there is energy which generates heat means light. The whole purpose of Nada Yoga is to stimulate your consciousness so that the Kundalini can be triggered up. In Nada Yoga, the Yogi worships the absolute as Nada Bhrama or the sound OM. If you follow this practice, to its conclusion you will finally see that you and the universe are not different one in all-all in one; which is the meaning of Vedic verses like Ahambrahmasmi, Tattvamasi, Ayamatm Brahma, Prajnanam Brahma.
